Anyway, the answer here is you have to use lvm to manage the disk
space, it supports on line extension. XFS can then use xfs_growfs
to expand the filesystem - again whilst it is running, XFS does
not support offline resizing!

Any other partition management mechanism which allows expansion of a 
partition or logical volume would work too.
