Strange corruption in XFS-HEAD

I don't know if any of you have seen this but this is what's happening:

Example: im rm -rf linux-tree AND tar -zxvf linux-2.4.17.tar.gz 

When im done i try to apply 2.4.18-pre2 and it fails with a reject.

if i do *ONLY* one operation (not deleting files and extracting at same
time) the diff works?

I've also noticed some files are the wrong data right file name?
