cvs -z3 co -D "October 11, 2001 21:00:00 UTC"  linux-2.4-xfs

I've done this a lot with other versions with no problems.

Sure...  yep.  That appears to work. I forgot the patches were available via
ftp.  It's still odd that the above doesn't work, tho.
