I joined the list a few days ago, mostly to find out what (if any)
procedure existed to upgrade a 7.1-XFS box to 7.2-XFS ... The responses
have pretty much all been "wait for the installer", which probably is the
best course of action for most folks.
Just so people know it's possible though, I spent a few hours and
went through manually to upgrade one of my XFS-enabled boxes to 7.2.
It essentially involved a lot of 'rpm -Fvh [x-z]*rpm' type runs, and
it took a while to figure out all of the non-specific dependencies
(/sbin/ip is in the iproute RPM BTW.)
The only things I have left to do are kernel and X upgrades. I grabbed
the 2.4.9 RPMs from the sgi/testing FTP area, and need to recompile
the video board FB driver (NVidia) for the new kernel before X will
be complete. I should then be able to convert my last ext2 partition
to ext3 while leaving the rest of the system as XFS. (One day I'll buy
a bigger drive and properly migrate that filesystem ... Couldn't do the
backup/mkfs/restore shuffle with my currently available space.)
The biggest problem was the Gnome bits which took a little to determine the
new pacakges that needed installing. If you have a server-install (ie:
no/little X), it should be much simpler. I have one I'm going to look at
upgrading tonight or tomorrow in hopefully a much shorter time.
