You may remember that I was having problems using XFS on an HP NetServer
last week using the XFS installer for RH 7.1. After much rooting around,
it appears that the problem may have to do with a conflict between the
kernel driver for the NetRAID SCSI interface included with the server (a
NetRAID 2M card in this instance), and the firmware distributed by HP.
Apparently the firmware isn't particularly good at 64 bit addressing.
>From the "megaraid.c" driver source (linux 2.4.9):

 *
 * Check added for HP 1M/2M controllers if having firmware H.01.07 or
 * H.01.08. If found, disable 64 bit support since these firmware have
 * limitations for 64 bit addressing
 *

This conflict has been resolved in newer kernel revisions, and so I am
confident that I will be able to use XFS in future projects on this
hardware platform. I cannot say for certain that this was the
contributing factor, but it appears to have been the most likely cause,
and is not necessarily XFS specific since the recommendation is to
upgrade the driver on all RH 7.1 based systems.
