Hi,

We are looking at deploying an increasing number of linux based file
servers within our enterprise, based on HP's NetServer platform. One of
the aspects we are investigating relates to journalled file systems, and
we are looking at project activity and so on to try and ascertain
longevity and stability.

I have a good deal of previous experience with SGI hardware and the IRIX
OS platform, and so I have a natural tendency towards recommending XFS
for Linux, since I have good experiences with this file system, and a
great deal of respect for the engineering talent at SGI. How actively is
the project being maintained? Is is straightforward to forward revise
the kernel and apply the XFS patches to it? Will there be long term
support for XFS on linux? Is it going to work with RH 7.2?

If any of these questions appear to be rude or pointed, then I
apologise. It is not my intention to cause any offence. I really want to
push for XFS versus any of the competitors -- in fact it appears that
the only other viable contender would be JFS from IBM, and I just can't
bring myself to side with the people who brought the world so much
misery with AIX.

Regards,
