...better late than never I suppose :)

I've been using 8.1 since it first was available. It detected all my hardware fine and setup went without a hitch. I've since upgraded my kernel to 2.2.12 w/ preempt patches and it seems a bit snappier than the default kernel Mdk ships with. Other than that, it was no more broken after install than Redhat etc... for me. YMMV, but it works for me :)

P.S. I've got fairly basic hardware: P2 400 384MB Ram, 2 IDE HD, Int DVD, Ext. USB CD-Writer, TNT vid card - All detected and working after install.

Anyone know much about this?

I usually shy away from Mandrake, because I have found many packages
(as well as the installer) broken in places.

Despite the encouragement from Mike and Ivan it needs to be said that
there is a fair sized thread on uk.comp.os.linux about people having
trouble with the installer.

I suspect they have slightly unusual hardware, but that shouldn't
really cause trouble (says he who has never managed to get a RH
install to all-SCSI to work properly).
I'll be playing with it myself on the test machine when I finish a
download. Can't see me ever going to it as a main install though.
