Hi Arjen -
Yes, there will be another "stable" release of XFS for Linux, but when/what it
will be is the question. With test resources here spread between
projects, and
the wild gyrations of the underlying kernel, it's hard to predict that
particular bit of the future. :)
Mandrake recently released their 8.1 system, with an xfs-capable 2.4.8 kernel
that underwent heavy testing. So that might not be a bad place to start
if you
want a recent, tested, xfs-capable kernel.
Right now I'm using 2.4.6 with the linux-2.4.6-xfs-07052001.patch which is
stable but has very poor VM performance (especially when writing), I will
just hold out until something "stable" with the post-2.4.10 VM improvements
appears. I've had too much trouble with the 2.4 series already to be trying
more "random" kernels unless I know that if I get it to work there will be
a noticable improvement...
Don't let Linux's VM-of-the-day get you down, keep up the good work :)
