This question crops up all the time; from what I can tell you have
already stated the reason that XFS is not part of the stable kernel
series at the moment.

Both sides of this debate have totally valid reasons for their
particular stance.

(i.e.

SGI: "It's easier and more efficient from our point of view to keep the
Irix and Linux implementation similar, hence we need to duplicate some
Linux code"

Linus: "Having duplicated code, from my point of view, is not the
easiest way to maintain what is already quite complex"
