Promise?  Ouch.  Especially if it is the "trick BIOS" FastTrak. 
Even the SuperTrak is not _that_ good compared to the Adaptec 2400A
or the 3Ware Escaldes -- at least according to StorageReview.COM.

The only time I've seen people having problems with 3Ware cards has
been when they change the default block size, use RAID-5 (which has
slow write performance anyway) or load older run-time monitoring
software while running with newer drivers and/or firmware.
