Hm, perhaps this is devfs-related... 

devfs is completely gone from the 1.0.1 kernel, so "devfs=mount" won't
do anything for you.

Perhaps something about your on-disk /dev is wrong...  If there's a way
to re-install the dev RPM (or verify it) that might fix the problem.

Can you boot 2.4.2 with "devfs=nomount"?
