Hi,
I spent two days to hack Slackware 8 installer and to add support for XFS
root filesystem and xfsprogs.tgz package.
Kernel is 2.4.6 patched for XFS.
I have the following problems:
1. When XFS is root filesystem it can't be checked for errors.
Wnen I go to runlevel 1 and remount / readonly all xfs repair tools say
that filesystem is mounted. The only way is to make two boot disks with kernel
and static linked repair tools on ramdisk.
2. Data in most of the files which are open during power fail is lost.
Files are here, size is right but data is garbage.
So where is journal? I think that only metadata is journaled but not file
data. ReiserFS has the same problem. In fact only ext3 works fine.
I like XFS features like ACL and extended attributes but if the system or
power fails data is lost.
About year ago I had some problems with hard drives with 2MB write
back cache but this is not the case now.
Regards
Ivan
