Those zeroes are binary zeroes: the null character. I remember this was
discussed before (you could search the archives, I do believe the XFS list
is archived by marc.theaimsgroup.com). I cannot quite remember exactly
what causes this, though. Maybe the gurus can reply when they're not so
busy.
Maybe we can add a FAQ entry for this? I think it's asked frequently
enough. :)
