I remember that this NULL character issue was widespread right after 1.0
was released. I was not able to update myself with the status of this
issue, though, so maybe someone on the list can refresh us all as to what
the known causes of the NULL character issue are, and what kernels and
platforms are most susceptible?

This report by Colin Walter sounds rather alarming. I hope we can all help
each other to find out how to work on this issue. :)
