How many times has this system crashed? The only time I have seen null
characters is when I had a system crash, and some files which were being
actively written to came up with nulls after recovery. This is because
the metadata (size) had been written out to disk, but the data itself
had not.
xfs_check won't find any problems with this, it's a perfectly consistent
filesystem, with some files that have nothing but nulls.
Just saw your note that you'll put findnull in a cron job... if you see
new files showing up with these nulls on a filesystem that has been
happily running along, be sure and let us know...
