Actually, this is a devfs issue and is actually discussed in the
README that comes with the accelerated Nvidia drivers.
They suggest re-installing the accelerated drivers each time before
starting X. This does work, but even better is to disable devfs
In you lilo.conf, add
append="devfs=nomount"
in the xfs-1.0 section (or in the global section if you like).
