The kernel module source code is available. It is the GLX code (which
also does not require recompile when a kernel is changed) that is not
open. Apparently part of the reason this is the way it is reflects the
same problems SGI had before with XFS...the GLX is not a Mesa
look-alike, but is a full OpenGL implementation, and as such it is
encumbered with legalities. Between customers that paid for their OpenGL
implementation and encumberances, it might be difficult for them to
release it. But SGI might be able to help with any OpenGL licensing
issues :P
