OK, I've had a play with a test machine....
Red Hat 7.1, installed from SGI XFS 1.0 CDROM
[root@webpc2 /root]# cat /etc/fstab
/dev/hde3 /home xfs defaults,usrquota,grpquota 1 2
[root@webpc2 /root]# quotaon -v /home
quotaon: /dev/hde3: Invalid argument
quotaon: /dev/hde3: Invalid argument
I rebooted anyway, and after the reboot:
[root@webpc2 /root]# dmesg|grep quota
VFS: Diskquotas version dquot_6.5.0 initialized
XFS quotacheck ide2(33,3): Please wait.
XFS quotacheck ide2(33,3): Done.
[root@webpc2 /root]# repquota -v /dev/hde3
Not all specified mountpoints are using quota.
Doh!
