Good news, boot off the cdrom in rescue mode, mount the root partition
on the new hda as /mnt then run

  ROOT=/mnt lilo -C /mnt/etc/lilo.conf

/mnt/etc/lilo.conf should have boot=/dev/hda and root=/dev/hda<n>.

As long as the disks don't move.  The problem here is the system is
being created on hdc then the disk is moved to hda, lilo always has
problems with disk numbers changing.
