You cannot distingush between used and cached in Linux, it's all the same programs and program data and cached file data are all in the same page cache, and free shows it as mem used. The buffers column shown in free is only the data used for metadata buffers, like directories on disk, which is only a small fraction of the cached data. XFS in fact can put them also into the page cache, so the metadata buffers are even less important. -Andi |
