Is it by chance a VIA chipset?
Is it an IDE or scsi drive and on what controller?
What other devices live on the bus.
If it is an IDE drive does it have decent cabling? Did you tune the drive
with hdparm like switching on DMA or other modes?
Is this under light,medium,high loads?
