I downloaded XFS prerelease iso cd and used it to install redhat7.1
I am currently running XFS on ide disks made by fuji
Comments:
I find XFS to be very reliable, and provide very fast access to IDE
disks- much faster than I have ever seen before. I also like the thought
of never having to use fsck again! I havent found any bugs or problems
yet, and am running file services which require quite a lot of
read/writing to the disk. I'll let you know if something does come up,
but the way things have gone so far i doubt it. I have been using linux
with ext2 for a long time now, and although the ext2 filesystem was
good, i am happy to see the new generation (for linux) file systems
coming into use in companies etc. I have used XFS on IRIX since the
release of IRIX 5.3, so am very happy to see such a high performance
file system coming across to linux. The anaconda installer was good too,
the first step to an SGI-Linux distribution (which would be great). I
have been using linux on the desktop with the 5dwm window manager and
IMD for linux, an SGI linux distro with IMD for linux, and all the high
performance stuff which makes IRIX so great is something I and a lot of
other linux users would like to see happen. I will be very interested in
seeing xlv for linux, and look forward to using XFS on some of our linux
servers soon.
Thanks for everything, SGI is doing great things for Open Source, and
look forward to many other ports of great sgi software.
