I'm sorry but, yes, having ACLs on XFS and ext2 is not really
possible at this time.
Andreas Gruenbacher's patch for EAs and ACLs on ext2 is not
compatible with our changes for EAs and ACLs on XFS.
Our EA and ACL implementation has been based on the IRIX code.
Ideally, however, we'd prefer to have the userland tools and
kernel interface to these to be a common one for Linux for each
file system.
At the time of porting the EA/ACL code for XFS, there was much discussion
about a suitable general EA API, with Andreas G. and Stephen Tweedie
being two of the main contributors.
Andreas G. subsequently refined his implementation and API a few times.
Andrew Gildfind (ajag@xxxxxxx) also reviewed the proposals and made
suggestions.
However, at the time there was no real consensus and so we did not
do further work on changing the code.
If there is consensus reached in the future, then we'd be
happy to help in having XFS follow the agreed upon model
provided it caters for the XFS functionality.
