I had the same problem on the same laptop...

The problem is : the pcmcia core is not i8xxx but yenta_socket so edit
/etc/sysconfig/pcmcia and change the line PCIC=i82365 into
PCIC=yenta_socket

this get's U half way ... now reinsmod the 3c59x module ... and presto
network

the other problem is devfs specific ... autoloading of certain devices
fails (like cdrom ...)

just do a modprobe cdrom;modprobe ide-cd
then the /dev/hdc device file will be there.

for the mouse ... thats another prob ...
it works under X though.... gpm -t ps2 -m /dev/psaux should do the
trick
