Burned the ISO image to CD, booted the laptop from the CD.  Another
note...after installation and reboot, the /dev system was lacking a
number of things.../dev/cdrom didn't exist...not even /dev/hdc.

Tried, yes.  Did "insmod 3c59x", added "alias 3c59x eth0" (or is it
alias eth0 3c59x) in /etc/modules.conf.

I'll take a look...thanks.

Incidentally, on reboot, the pcmcia loader gives an error about setup
timing out.
