Unlikely to be XFS related.  Have you tried plain 2.4.0 on the same
machine?  Do the usual things to tease out a hardware problem: Run
memtest, switch the memory (or remove some of the sticks), run lots of
parallel kernel builds for a few days, etc.

(Unless you have been hacking your kernel, you won't have the same
problem I'm having.  The code in question never gets run in 2.4.0-XFS,
as far as I can tell.)
