Hi Eric and the SGI XFS Mailing List,

My HPT366 controller was recognised which was great. I know Linus made
mention of a 2.4.0 incompatibility with the HPT366 and IBM hard disks that
is fixed in 2.4.1 (and this is my configuration):

http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-kernel@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/msg26132.html

My motherboard is an Abit BP6 (Intel Celeron SMP)

My boot hard disk is on hde (First Primary HPT366 controller. First two IDE
controllers are ATA-33). I installed / to /dev/hde1.

Unfortunately after getting through the entire install I couldn't boot the
OS. No message displayed whatsoever after attempting to boot the first
partition.

And strangely the boot disk did nothing except turn the boot process over to
the HD MBR :-(

The boot disk contains:
initrd.img
lost+found
vmlinuz-2.4.0-SGI_XFS_PR

So I'm stuck.

I know Redhat has a tendency to attempt illegal lilo configurations (e.g. by
putting an entry into lilo.conf that lilo cannot see). If this happens lilo
never finishes executing and the hard disk is never ready for booting. I've
had this happen to me before and solved it by booting using the boot disk
created during install, editing lilo.conf and then running lilo again.
Because of a compounded error with the boot disk I never got this chance.

Here's the rest of my installation comments:

1. Liked the SGI colour scheme and installer :-)

2. Your time zone selection missed out "Pacific Rim". It was still possible
to select Auckland (New Zealand) from the World Map.

3. No ability to select 32 bit display modes for my 3dfx Voodoo3 3000.

4. On the first install I tested the screen resolution. Even though I was
able to see the message that the display mode was OK and click on it, the
installer display was then corrupted and I had to hard reset and start again
(BTW I chose 1152x854, 24 bit).

Regards,
Adam
