i've compiled the CVS snapshot on sparc32, but it did hang quite soon after
reboot. but this could be a sparc32 breakage. i was not able to investigate
any further as i had to reuse the machine for other purposes.

all i found was a missing define for O_DIRECT in include/asm-sparc/fcntl.h.
davem suggested in mail to use "#define O_DIRECT 0x80000".
