For working on XFS, a good starting point is to setup and
run the XFS qa/stress scripts in an automated or easily
reproducible fashion. There is a readme in the tree which
describes this process and how to create new stress tests
for everyone to use. There are a number of people here
who do nightly stress runs (thru cron), then look over the
results in the morning trying to turf out irregularities
and bugs.
This provides a good base for moving forward & making bug
fix and other source changes in XFS.

Good places to seek knowledge and learn that I have found
useful are a/ the source and b/ mailing lists (linux-fsdevel,
linux-kernel,linux-xfs,...)
Finally, there is a list of work items at
http://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/todos.html
Its quite out of date, unfortunately, but could still be
used as a very rough guide to items which remain to be
done. The last three items for example, I'm pretty sure
noone is currently looking at. Some of the other items
listed as unassigned, are actually being pursued by SGI
or external folk already. The list is also no longer
comprehensive - Steve has another version of this doc
which has a number of additional items which need to be
done, including O_SYNC, making XFS work with more recent
gcc versions, and several other things.
