maybe the same for 2.96 (redhat 7.0) too which as far as i remember
from here also has problems ...

p.s.: maybe we should also add an arch check there too - because on
      ppc it seems to work (without any big testing) with 2.95 (and
      i think there is no egcs precompiled available for this arch
      in most distribs) ... i think alpha is about the same - but
      on the other hand - who is playing with XFS on those arches :-)
