Yes, I have seen the same thing. I have had a couple of reports of successful
lilo installation, but never achieved it myself.

In my case lilo gets to the LIL- state and hangs. I got as far as running
strace on lilo and looking at the difference. Yhe 

Are you using a complex lilo.conf file or just a single kernel entry?
