For gins I tried the ProPack install on a 7.0 system.
Seems 7.0 uses rpm 4. whatever, the ProPack installer expects
rpm 3.0.5 (I think), need less to say things didn't jive.

True

I tried the not PP rpms, they did install but I had trouble with
lilo not loading the correct kernel... probably pilot error.

I have installed the XFS_BETA_2 rpms from the beta release and I have a test5 kernel with xfs compiled when the machine still was a redhat 6.2 box.

Both these kernels have the following problem after booting.
it runs init.
You get the line "Mounting proc filesystem" (disk activity) followed by a quick "Unknown group utmp" message.
"init: entering runlevel 3"
After that the login prompt stares at you.

try to log in as root and it will barf at you, and I quote: "You don't exist, go away"
How rude. ;-)

After hitting the reset button the machine will leave all partitions in a unclean state with just a few minor errors on the / disk.
