just in case anyone is wondering, i am experiencing the same problems.
everything freshly built from cvs tree.  i've been able to reproduce on
redhat 6.2, 6.1 and debian 2.2 boxes.  all running gcc 2.95 i believe, or
egcs, whichever you call it now.  after the first unsuccessful mount, i run
xfs_repair, and mount/umount work perfectly after that.  weirdness...
