On a latest & greatest kernel, I too am NOT seeing
this problem now --- I guess the mere mention of it made it
go away ;-) Absolute performance is still 10-15% slower
than in the 2.3.99pre2, but guess that EXT2 will have
similar problems (as with bonnie).
