We have reached a point in the architecture conversion work
where we are satisfied with both the performance and stability
of linux XFS in MIPS compatible mode.
The proposal has been made that we should shortly adopt the
'XFS is big-endian' approach and make MIPS compatible mode
the only available mode.
This change involves not just changing the default mode, but
removing multiple architecture support and a large amount of
simplification that can go with that.
The first stage of that process is basically ready to go ahead.
It's a pretty hefty commit, touching every file that the
architecture work has touched so far and removing support for
all existing intel-xfs filesystems.
Our proposal is to go ahead with this on our Monday.
If anyone has any objections to this idea, please let me know.
We can certainly change the timing to work around people who
are hunting corruption/getting ready to do other big commits
etc...
** this change will remove support for your existing XFS FSes **
** some userland tools will be broken (not mkfs_xfs or xfs_db) **
PS:
You might like to try switching to MIPS mode, rebuilding your
kernel, tools and XFS filesystems and trying the tests you're
using now to see how this will impact you.
