I'd say neither your backport or my fix were responsible for whatever problem
occurred because, from the limited information given, the reporter is running
reiserfs as his root filesystem and that is what died. i.e. "I had to fsck
--rebuild-tree" - that's an option specific to reiserfsck. Also, a dump of the
fstab on one of his machines showed ext3 root filesystems. Can you confirm that
it wasn't an XFS filesystem that was destroyed?
