Yes, it's racy.  But it's not that bad given that it's a privilegued operation.
 I don't think the proposed patch is very good either, we should have a proper
lock instead.  There has been a patch floating around on the fsdevel list to
take this into the VFS, which also happens to add the right locks.  I'd rather
get that one merged than changing the XFS code which hopefully goes away soon.
