I'm not sure if I'm hitting the exact same bug, but I'm getting the exact same
symptoms with I/Os blocking indefinitely also on x86-64 SMP.  No MD/DM.  Kernels
since around 2.6.25 have been pretty much unusable, 2.6.24 series seems to be OK
though.
