Southgro Investment Conferences has seized the opportunity to launch a first
of its kind, the LIFEsparks bioportal on our website www.lifesparks.co.za.

Sponsored by the Innovation Fund, part of the National Research Foundation
(South African National Department of Science & Technology) and the
Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Ltd - a self-financing,
national
development finance institution, we envisage it to become the hubsite of South
Africa's biosciences community providing news about and niche services to
local life sciences, pharmaceutical, neutraceutical and medical devices
companies.

The BIO RSA hub also hosts our BIO-art segment, a forum for Bio(logical)
Art(ists) to express their creativity -
http://www.lifesparks.co.za/biotech_rsa_portal/bio_art.htm

In creating a vibrant, innovative and networked bio-community, LIFEsparks
invites you to submit original art that deals with developmental or
experimental electronic and biological work focused in the life sciences to our
online
bioportal for exhibition.

Subject to interest and quality, adventurous art projects that utilise
emergent technologies in areas such as digital, time-based, internet,
screen-based, robotic AI and biological art will be exhibited at the planned art
exhibition, as part of the LIFEsparks 2005 biopartnering event that will take
place
at the Sandton Convention Centre, with the top 25 finalists attending the
glamour evening and awards ceremony on 19 October 2005.

Bio-art can be anything from images captured on a confocal microscope to a
watercolor painting on canvas; and be of scientific or artistic value.

Guidelines: Photographs, digital images, canvas, slides, etc. can be
submitted. All artwork should be submitted in the highest quality available,
with
the understanding that the work will be flighted eventually on plasma screen
and or printed in high resolution posters and mounted on panels.

For non-conventional art, please submit an exhibition proposal to
info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Decisions can be made more readily, the more information
we are
given to work with (required display equipment, lighting, etc). Please bear
in mind that there are only a certain number of non-conventional displays
possible, so submitting a proposal is no guarantee of acceptance.

In all instances, an A4-long concept and rationale should include an
account of the idea or scientific finding, together with a discussion of the
theme/s the scientist / artist(s) treat, or the theoretical background of the
work
or research. All submissions must include a current CV. Plans for any
publication associated with the art exhibition should be mentioned.

Entries are received and considered at anytime until 30 September 2005.

Digital art will be displayed on-line prior to the event, and therefor
should be in *.jpg, *.tif, *.gif, or animated *.gif or *.mp3 file format.

Web visitors to the online gallery will not be able to download images to
protect copyright and entitlements.

Sponsorships, awards, and prizes to reward scientists and artists for their
creative input will be announced on 1 August 2005.

We look forward to receiving your artistic submissions. We may be contacted
via email on info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or telephonically on (011) 880-0364.

Yours sincerely,
