I would suggest using the kernels at
ftp://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/testing/release-1.3.3-pre2/kernels/RHEL/

These are modified RHEL kernels (somewhat out of date; will put newer
ones up soon) with much newer XFS code.  The kernels have some other
modifications besides xfs; you may wish to look at the .spec file for
which patches have been added.

(Of course using these kernels will also mean that you give up Red Hat
support for them, but it's much closer to stock RHEL than a plain 2.4.27
kernel).
