Of course I did make modules_install and the scsi was <*> directly compiled in
the kernel
instead of <M> having a module.
But at this point .. to be clear ..
which is the right procedure to follow ?

Really, I am getting lost!
I have the feeling that some times your advices are related to the pages cited

some others they refer to something different!
I know that I am stressing you a lot but I think that if I succeed "linux on VW
540"
installation will be dummy proof.
