Dear OSS,
I have come across a problem with the INSTALL script of ProPack 1.3 when
attempting to install it on our new 230. It fails to run, reporting that the
installation is "not supported on a Visual Workstation".
It appears that the part of the script which checks for magic values in the PCI
/dev structure does not find the answers it expects on our machine. I modified
the script to bypass this test (plus the nested "if" immediately following) and
the script ran correctly.
The machine was previously running an "everything" installation of RedHat 6.2,
although I had initially believed the message produced by the ProPack script and
sought an alternative solution to the graphics installation, namely a manual
install of XFree86-4.0 plus matching Kernel and GLX drivers from nVidia's
website.
What does this mean...? :)
Simon
PS. You might also want to put in a warning that the "makewhatis" stage will
take a long time. I thought it had fallen over and killed the script before I
worked out what it was doing...
