The Public Works Management (PWM) program provides the knowledge and skill
attainment for individuals seeking employment as a first level manager in a
public works organization. The Conference provides instruction in the broad
range of competencies required for managing technicians in a public works
organization in the following basic areas:
General Management â Management of public works programs and
the necessary preventative maintenance, operational advantages and
disadvantages, and program effectiveness measurement. Street Construction and Maintenance â Management of materials and methods,
specifications, records and cost accounting systems, revenue sources and budget
preparation. Procedures â
Understanding practices, and testing criteria for the transporting, placing,
curing, and testing of asphalt concrete & Portland cement concrete
construction for roads, runway floors, and hydraulic structures. Inspection Methods â Functions and responsibilities of
inspectors of both simple and complex public works construction projects;
including construction materials and control procedures, methods and inspection
procedures. Personnel Management â Understanding supervision to include
personnel management, recruitment, training, evaluation, promotion, morale,
grievances, and safety promotion. Venue: Pretoria South Africa Duration: 1 week 13-17, March
