In /etc/pcp/pmcd/pmcd.conf you can use the -D option to individual PMDAs;
such that when pmcd starts them, they will write extra logging into their
log files (usually named like /var/log/pcp/pmcd/[xxx].log)

You can enable to debugging to pmcd itself via /etc/pcp/pmcd/pmcd.options
(see the example there).  "pmdbg -l" lists all available settings.
