Bug ID 1118
Summary pcp atop pmlogconf bloats default pcp logs
Product pcp
Version unspecified
Hardware All
OS Linux
Status NEW
Severity major
Priority P5
Component pcp
Assignee pcp@kenj.com.au
Reporter fche@redhat.com
CC pcp@oss.sgi.com
Classification Unclassified

The recently added src/pmlogconf/tools/atop* includes this:

ident metrics used by the atop command
probe kernel.uname.sysname ~ Linux ? include : exclude
delta 10 seconds
        disk.dev.read
        disk.dev.write
        [...130 lines omitted...]
        network.udp.inerrors
        network.udp.outdatagrams

This is transcribed by default pmlogconf commands, so it multiplies former
pmlogger default data intensity by a factor of six (since it formerly recorded
a similar set of metrics at 1/60s rate). Some servers I've access to went from
20 MB/day to 120 MB/day of log data according to pmlogger -r.

Please consider rolling this back to the former 60s interval.
