A number of people have asked us to provide drop-in replacements for sysstat
reporting tools like mpstat(1), so they can more easily transition to using
PCP. Command line option compatibility is highly desirable, as is access to
additional PCP functionality like archive replay and remote hosts.
The python pcp.pmcc module provides a nice way to implement such tools, along
with the pcp(1) frontend command that allows for option compatibility alongside
the new PCP functionality. See the pcp-free(1) and pcp-numastat(1) man pages
for examples, as well as their sources (src/pcp/{free,numastat} and test cases
(qa/{743,991} in the git tree).
