I find the logfile names useful in that context; perhaps the other
programs can be made consistent with that instead?

I don't have a strong preference. I (weakly) favour the terse format on the basis that the vast majority of users don't care, and the few that do already know that pmwebd and pmmgr are part of Performance Co-Pilot and know where to find the log files.

Let's decide (not sure how) and be consistent ... if the long format wins, we have to revert commits from the Jurassic period for some of the init scripts.
