Thanks Frank, but that's a little worse if anything ... same parser error

urllib3.exceptions.LocationParseError: Failed to parse: Failed to parse: 
::1:44323

but now I also see

curl: (3) [globbing] illegal character in range specification at pos 9

And no amount of \ escaping seems to help.

I think I'll leave the test sniffing in /etc/hosts for localhost6 or 
ip6-localhost ... if there other variants these can be added there.
