Attached patch appears to work for me when testing with inet sockets - it
should also work for exercising the new IPv6 libpcp_pmda code.

$ cd /var/lib/pcp/pmdas/simple
$ ./pmdasimple -U nathans -i 23456 -l /tmp/simple.log
$ dbpmda
dbpmda> open 
open dso dsoname init_routine [ domain# ]
open pipe execname [ arg ... ]
open socket unix sockname
open socket inet port#|service
open socket ipv6 port#|service
dbpmda> open socket inet 23456
Connect to PMDA on inet port 23456
dbpmda> status
