Hi all,

Just wanted to send a quick note about the list of things planned for
pcp-gui-1.5 which I've recently started working through. I'm aiming
to begin generating an additional pcp-doc package (deb/rpm) with the
html docs (stuff currently in the pmchart online help, the original
SGI PCP tutorial and howtos and some new odds and ends too). pcp-doc
is intended to cover both pcp and pcp-gui - may as well continue to
live in pcp-gui source tree though, as it can share one checked-in
copy of many of the pmchart, pmtime images/icons etc. The rpms/debs
will not be dependent on either pcp or pcp-gui however.

Docs can be painful, but there's definately a gaping hole in what we're
providing here, and its all horribly out of date and inconsistent. I'd
love to get a bit of help with a few things, as described below (spots
with specific names attached, in particular - square brackets below).

pcp-gui-1.5 To-Do list:

- split out pcp-doc from pcp-gui (packaging, not source)
  (debs done, initial rpm split done) [ Mark to help here? ]
- merge in (commit) old tutorial docs, v1 (done)
- merge in Qwt 5.2 sources
- merge .gitignore files
- fixes:
  - intermittent time control freeze in archive mode
  - option when auto-scaling Y-axis to fix at zero
    (esp. for utilisation views)
- update old docs wrt:
  - images (find all needed by old docs, merge)
  - generate new images for open source tools
  - consistent fonts, style etc across all html docs
  - content modernisation
  - cross-platform installation [ Max - Solaris notes? ]
  - updates to:
        o installation.html (cover PCP as well)
        o lab.pmlogger.html
        o lab.pmieconf.html
        o pcp.whatsnew.html (*done*)
        o all pmchart snapshots (Mac, X11, Win)
        * howto.cpuperf.html [ Ken? ]
        * howto.diskperf.html [ Ken? ]
        o howto.enterprise.html
        o glossary.html (modernise)
        o contacts.html (cover PCP as well)
        o credits.html (cover PCP as well)
        o pmview.html
        o trace.html
- add new docs:
  * lab.pmlogconf.html  [ Ken? ]
  - lab.metrics.html (C PMDA and MMV APIs)
  - lab.parfait.html (Java MMV API) [ adapt from Cowans ]
  - lab.perlmetrics.html (Perl PMDA and MMV APIs)
  ? lab.pythonmetrics.html (Python PMDA API)
  - howto.diskmodel.html (modelling I/O with PCP::LogSummary and FIO)
  * howto.pmimport.html (PCP::LogImport API)  [ Ken? ]
  - howto.perlpmda.html (PCP::PMDA API)

So, basically 1.5 should be a fairly "boring" release - not much on
the code front. But it will lay the groundwork to be able to do a
pcp-gui-2.0 later in the year with gadgets, perhaps pmview, and other
interesting stuff - I hope!

cheers.
